Biography

Eileen Ruggeri-Coccia, born in Sonoma, California in 1960, grew up on the Ruggeri Ranch complete with vineyards, fruit and walnut trees, a barn and chickens.

She raised rabbits in the 4-H club and her father instilled in her love of nature and the land.

Though Eileen was always creative and a former ballet dancer, her career in the art business became a priority when she found some fantastic artists and instructors who took her under their wing and nurtured her natural abilities as an artist. She spent 20 years painting in a loose impressionistic style with California landscapes and still life works. She learned to paint in this style under David Jensen, Mike Hardin, Michael Holland and Michael E. Bartlett.

In recent years, Eileen discovered the world of abstract painting under the instruction of Bob Nugent, former head of the Sonoma State University Art Department, the Original Curator of the renown Imagery Art Collection, and an internationally known abstract artist.

Eileen’s abstract paintings are scenes from everyday landscapes and objects of nature. She transforms them onto the canvas portraying the feeling of a place or thing. The painting becomes an image of shapes, manmade forms, as well as the wonders of nature in our world.

Eileen is known for her oil paintings with charcoal, watercolors and walnut ink drawings from her own hand made walnut ink sourced with walnut husks from ancestral land here in Sonoma.

Eileen attributes her early Catholic grounding and education as well as years of practicing A Course in Miracles and Eastern religions to passion for the arts. “An artist can capture the higher energy of the Universe and point us to our true essence.” Eileen is also a certified yoga and meditation instructor.
